The show will go on on Saturday, but Ra’eese Aleem will not be facing Angelo Leo.
Aleem missed weight on Friday for the featherweight (126 lbs) title bout, which was set to see Leo defend his IBF title. Leo first weighed in at 128.8 lbs, and a second attempt so him get down to 128, still well over the limit.
Leo will be paid his full, $147,000 purse, according to ESPN.com’s Andreas Hale, consistent with Georgia’s rules. The fight was set to be held in College Park.
The show will go on, but has obviously
lost the closest thing to a marquee attraction.
27-year-old prospect Atif Oberlton (15-0, 13 KO) will now headline against veteran Carlos Gongora (22-3, 17 KO) in a 10-round light heavyweight fight.
The good news is that those set for the undercard aren’t also out a fight date. Heavyweight prospect Pryce Taylor and super bantamweight Ashleyann Lozada will also still get to fight. But it’s been a waste of time for Leo, who hasn’t fought since a successful defense in Japan in May 2025, against Tomoki Kameda, and obviously it’s a setback for Aleem, who had already moved from 122 lbs in late 2024, and now may have to head up to 130, where it’s likely he’ll have to kind of hit reset again on advancing his career.
