The Carolina Panthers front office is busy throughout the season with transactions, roster moves, and injury updates. Here’s what’s happening at Mint Street this week.
Injuries
Carolina’s injury report is scarier than many of last week’s Halloween costumes. Unfortunately the team has been slow to release Friday’s practice information and game statuses today, so we’ll need to do our best with updates through Thursday.
Let’s start with the good news first.
Veteran offensive lineman Brady Christensen has been progressing
and looks like he will be active this week. Provided he’s healthy, it will be up to the coaching staff to determine if — and which position — he ends up playing this week. The Panthers offensive line is a shambles right now and Christensen has the versatility to play all five positions. Here’s to hoping he’s both healthy and productive against the Broncos.
Defensive tackle Bobby Brown is also trending in the right direction after missing last week’s game with a hand injury. He was a full participant in practice on Wednesday and Thursday.
Now, the bad part. Three important contributors to the Panthers defense are in bad shape including outside linebacker Jaelen Phillips, cornerback Will Lee, and linebacker Bobby Okereke. None of them had practiced through Thursday.
On the offensive side of the ball, guard Damien Lewis missed last week’s game with a knee injury and has also not practiced prior to Friday.
Transactions
Signed CB Jakorian Bennett to the practice squad
Jakorian Bennett could help provide reinforcements to the Panthers’ bruised and bloodied cornerbacks room. He was originally a 2023 fourth-round pick by the Las Vegas Raiders. In two seasons in Sin City he appeared in 24 games with 11 starts, registering 58 tackles and an impressive 11 passes defended.
After two solid seasons Raiders traded him before the 2025 season to the Philadelphia Eagles. He appeared in 11 games for Philly last year with seven tackles before suffering an injury and getting waived just a few days ago with an injury designation.
Signed OT Da’metrius Weatherspoon to the practice squad
Speaking of battered and bruised units on the Panthers roster, the entire offensive line needs some reinforcement. This week the Panthers signed tackle Da’metrius Weatherspoon to the practice squad. He entered the league this year as an undrafted free agent out of Syracuse and has spent some time with the Bills and Patriots before coming to Charlotte. He has yet to appear in an NFL game.
Signed LB Mohamoud Diabate to the practice squad
If the name Mouhamoud Diabate sounds familiar it’s because he’s had a decent NFL career in what is now his fifth season. He spent his first three seasons with the Cleveland Browns from 2023 through 2025 appearing in 46 games with 127 tackles. He had a career-high 70 tackles back in 2024.
But his previously promising young career hit a detour last year when he joined the Tennessee Titans and appeared in only one game while bouncing around the practice squad. He now joins the Panthers practice squad with a decent amount of on-field experience.
Releases: This week the Panthers also released CB Zion Childress LB Maema Njongmeta from the practice squad.
