After a difficult stretch of the season for Maryland softball that eliminated it from Big Ten tournament contention early, the Terps found a way to turn the corner right before the end.
Despite falling to the Spartans 4-3 in extra innings Friday, Maryland found its groove, winning 3-0 Saturday and sounding off with a 7-2 victory Sunday.
This is Maryland’s second straight series victory. Facing Illinois at home from Apr.
17-19, the Terps were able to take the Friday and Sunday games 5-1 and 8-1, respectively.
The Terps finished the season with a 19-29 record overall and a 5-19 record in Big Ten play. They placed 15th of 17 teams in the conference, in front of Illinois and Michigan State.
Two weeks ago, the Terps were just 1-17 in conference — the late-season turnaround could prove beneficial for the group moving forward. This is the first time that Maryland has won back-to-back Big Ten series since 2022.
While it won’t play, Maryland will host the Big Ten tournament from May 6-9 in College Park. Those game will be available to watch on the Big Ten Network and Big Ten Plus.

Maryland tennis advanced to the Big Ten semifinals but fell to No. 3-seed Michigan. The Terps’ Emma Ghirardato was named to the all-tournament team.
Maryland track and field commit Quincy Wilson anchored Bullis School’s 4×400 relay in its victory at the prestigious Penn Relays over the weekend. Bullis is the first American school to win the high school-level event since 2007 — before Wilson was born.
Maryland women’s basketball alum Saylor Poffenbarger had nine points and 13 rebounds in the Minnesota Lynx’s first WNBA preseason game, and she has her coaches impressed.
