Kentucky Basketball fans had plenty to celebrate Wednesday night as former Wildcat guard Otega Oweh officially became the latest player from Lexington to reach the NBA.
Oweh was selected with the No. 41 overall pick in the second round of the 2026 NBA Draft by the Miami Heat before reports surfaced that he would be traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder. The selection marked the culmination of a breakout season at Kentucky and immediately generated excitement throughout Big Blue Nation.

filled with excitement from Kentucky fans, with many pointing to Oweh’s memorable performances during the 2025-26 season. One game repeatedly mentioned was his unforgettable NCAA Tournament performance against Santa Clara, when he scored 35 points while hitting a game-tying shot at the buzzer to force overtime before Kentucky eventually secured the victory.
Many fans also expressed excitement about Oweh landing with Oklahoma City, a franchise known for developing young talent and a team full of former Kentucky players with back-to-back MVPs, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Cason Wallace.
Oweh spent two seasons at Kentucky and became one of the Wildcats’ most reliable players, and now Oweh will begin the next chapter of his basketball journey. Many fans will follow his journey in the NBA.
