Trailing by five in the bottom of the ninth, the Desert Dogs didn’t put up as much of a fight as the score in their eventual 6-3 defeat might suggest. Glendale missed Chase Harlan’s bat in the lineup, as the only Dodger hitter who started this game was Anson Aroz.
Getting the nod behind the dish, Aroz was responsible for one of only three Desert Dogs hits, striking out in his other two plate appearances batting in the ninth spot. Aroz got into scoring position on a wild pitch with his hit in the sixth
and could’ve helped Glendale inch closer in this game; however, he was stranded there as leadoff hitter Wyatt Sanford was punched out to end the frame.
Out of the six pitchers used by Glendale in this loss, only Williams Salazar was a member of the Dodgers farm system, and he had the distinction of being their only pitcher who did not surrender a hit. Salazar struck out a pair to complete a scoreless sixth, allowing just a walk in the process.
Thursday score
Mesa 6, Glendale 3
