Happy Friday A’s fans!
The 2025 World Series begins tonight in Toronto as the Blue Jays host the Los Angeles Dodgers for the first game of the series. As the #1 seed the Jays get home-field advantage thus
getting to host the first two games before the series shifts to LA. Still, let there be no doubt that the Dodgers enter this series as the hands-down favorite. Gotta play ball though!
The starting pitching matchup is set for tonight. The Dodgers made no secret that they would be marching left-hander Blake Snell to the mound to get the series started for Los Angeles. They really couldn’t have gone wrong in any direction for their starter tonight, but it’ll be Snell who has had a monster postseason. Right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamtoto would have been a decent call, and even Shohei Ohtani would have been worthwhile. LA is putting all individual honors aside though in search of the first back-to-back World Series Championships since the late 90’s Yankees. It’s looking like Yamamoto Game 2, Tyler Glasnow Game 3, and Ohtani Game 4.
The Blue Jays as always kept it close to the chest but revealed that rookie right-hander Trey Yesavage will start tonight’s Game 1. This is unprecedented, folks! There has only ever been one pitcher younger than Yesavage to start Game 1 of the World Series and that was way back in 1947, just after WW2. This is insane but it caps a meteoric rise for the righty. Let’s see if he’s ready for the moment at just 22 years old. Veteran Kevin Gausman will likely handle Game 2 duties now, and the Jays will have to figure out the rest of their pitching plans later.
The A’s will dip their toe into the World Series later on when it shifts back to Southern California. Don’t be surprised when you hear Athletics outfielder Lawrence Butler on the broadcast because he’s set to be the player correspondent for Games 3 and 4:
That’s a terrific choice and one that should make the World Series even more enjoyable for A’s fans. Tune in to hear one of the A’s cornerstones!
Have a great day everyone, and enjoy your weekend full of the World Series!
