The college hockey transfer portal window opened on Monday, and Penn State picked up its first transfer in former Vermont defenseman Caeden Herrington:
The Manchester, Vermont native played 34 games for the Catamounts in the 2025-26 season, scoring one goal and seven assists. Herrington was drafted in the fourth round of the 2025 NHL Draft by the Los Angeles Kings. He played for the Lincoln Stars of the USHL in the 2024-25 season, where
he was second in the league in goals during the regular season (16).
Herrington is a skilled two-way defenseman with a great shot. Penn State’s defense is half gone with Jarod Crespo and Carter Schade graduating and Cade Christenson entering the transfer portal on Monday. A right-hand shot, Herrington should be a solid partner for Jackson Smith or Mac Gadowsky.
