Last night, the Brewers not only survived Jacob Misiorowski’s worst outing of the year, but emerged with a 9-4 victory over the Cubs that gave them a 2-1 series lead — and a nine-game lead in the NL Central — heading into today’s series finale.
Starting for Milwaukee will be right-hander Logan Henderson, who’s posted a 2.48 ERA in 14 starts this year. Somehow, it’s still been understated just how incredibly well he’s pitched; Henderson hasn’t given up more than three runs in a start, and the last
time he went fewer than five innings was April 4. In his last three starts, he’s given up exactly one earned run each time while averaging 6 2/3 innings and three hits allowed per start.
Chicago will counter with veteran Kevin Gausman, whose 4.52 ERA this season would be his highest since 2019. Gausman has made five starts with the Cubs since they acquired him from Toronto, allowing 16 earned runs in 28 innings.
The top of Milwaukee’s lineup is slightly reshuffled from yesterday, but it consists of the same five players — Chourio, Turang, Contreras, Bauers, and Vaughn. No surprises there. Christian Yelich will DH and hit sixth against the right-handed Gausman. Rounding out the order are Garrett Mitchell, starting in center tonight, Joey Ortiz, and David Hamilton.
