The Athletic’s Chris Waugh has confirmed that Newcastle United supporters will not see a new club crest until the 2027–28 season at the earliest.
“An updated crest will not be seen until 2027–28 at the earliest — some inside the club hope to have a revamped design on the kit by then — largely due to the manufacturing process,” Waugh wrote. “The lead time Adidas requires is several months for final designs to be in for 2026–27, so there is no chance a new badge will be confirmed in time.”
The club has
already held workshops with supporters to explain the rationale for updating the crest, with a renovation rather than a full redesign being the preferred option. Feedback is still being processed, and more consultation is expected in the coming months with the Fan Advisory Board and other fan groups.
Waugh noted that earlier leaks of potential rebrand designs sparked mockery online, and the club responded by insisting that no decision had been made. “No changed badge has been chosen and they will listen to what supporters want,” he added.
Since his arrival, Newcastle CEO Darren Hopkinson has emphasized the importance of transparency and dialogue with supporters. Waugh underlined that “how this process plays out will be another test of that in practice.”
