Unless something changes, Malik Willis is not going to be the next Arizona Cardinals starting quarterback.
Despite working to clear cap space, talking about being aggressive and needing to turn things around quickly, the top free agent quarterback on the market is now a Miami Dolphin.
It is a smaller deal than expected, but still over $20 million per year and with a big guaranteed number, basically the first two years of the deal.
It’s also why the Cardinals, despite being the favorites to sign Willis, couldn’t.
Guaranteed money and up front money comes from cash on hand. The Cardinals and Bidwill are notoriously cash poor, so they tend to have those guarantees spread out over the course of the contract, see Kyler Murray, so not to absorb too much at once.
We will see what happens from here. Everyone is excited for round two of Jimmy G vs. Jacoby Brissett, right?
Only a decade later for a franchise the polar opposite of the last one they battled for.
