It took just eight seconds for Robin Fellhauer to etch his name into Bundesliga history, and Bayern Munich will not want to remember this particular record for very long.
The FC Augsburg midfielder scored the fastest goal in Bundesliga history on Saturday, finding the back of the net just 8.4 seconds into the Bavarian derby against Bayern Munich. The previous record of nine seconds was jointly held by Kevin Volland, who scored for Hoffenheim against Bayern in 2015, and Karim Bellarabi, who scored for Bayer Leverkusen
against Borussia Dortmund in 2014.
After Luis Díaz played the ball back to Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer from kickoff, the veteran attempted to chip the onrushing Fellhauer. Instead, Neuer hit the Augsburg player with the ball, allowing Fellhauer to race toward an empty net and calmly finish.
It was a dream start for Augsburg and a nightmare opening for Bayern, with Fellhauer suddenly becoming a piece of Bundesliga history.
Eight seconds. One costly mistake. One unforgettable record.
Fellhauer has officially rewritten the history books, even if Neuer would probably prefer that particular page to be torn out.
