After acquiring Deshaun Watson, the Cleveland Browns went through several difficult seasons in terms of their NFL draft performance. Without any first-round assets for many years, the front office had to get creative in building this team. Now that the team has been back in action in the first round for the last two seasons, they have had a real opportunity to make an impact in the draft.
In this draft in particular, there was an immediate reaction from NFL fans and the national football media that
the Browns have one of the best, if not the best, draft classes this season. Cleveland secured four players who had first-round grades from many draft analysts, so the response has been overwhelmingly positive.
Naturally, with a reaction like this, it is easy for fans to get excited about what is to come. There is a lot of potential in this young talent, but there will always be uncertainty about whether this will translate to the field.
In addition to the immediate contributions these players can make, both fans and the media appear to have renewed confidence in the Browns’ front office. The Watson trade significantly damaged trust among these groups, but after two successful draft classes in a row, fans have begun to have hope and belief in Andrew Berry and his team again.
Even though hope doesn’t win games, it gives fans some fuel going into this next season.
