There’s nothing like the good feelings after a sweep. Gerrit Cole was even more impressive than in his first start post-Tommy John surgery and the game never felt particularly close. The Yankees really took it to the Royals this week in Kansas City, running up their personal winning streak against them to 14 since they won the second game of the 2024 ALDS and Jazz Chisholm Jr. called them “lucky” for it.
Well, maybe Jazz had a point. As was often cited on YES Network during the broadcasts, New York
is now 58-18 against KC since 2015 including the postseason. For a point of comparison to another team that they’ve often steamrolled, the Yanks are 51-18 against Minnesota in that time (also including playoffs). What else can you say but “Damn.”
On this offday, Peter will feature Cole’s return for his pitching Sequence of the Week, Madison will run through the Rivalry Roundup (thank you, Orioles), Jonathan will celebrate the birthday of Casey Stengel Dynasty Era pitcher Bob Kuzava (a relief hero in back-to-back World Series), John will explore what’s been going on with David Bednar during his slow start, and Nick will discuss the Yankees’ rotation depth in his monthly feature.

Questions/Prompts:
1. Do you have any particular concerns about the Yankees’ upcoming three-game set this weekend in West Sacramento against the surprising A’s?
2. Do the Thunder win tonight in San Antonio to advance to the NBA Finals against the Knicks? Or will the Spurs force a Game 7 back in Oklahoma City?
