Things went from bad to worse for the Eagles defense. Just after they were able to make an impressive stop to keep the Jaguars from tying the game before halftime, Jalyx Hunt suffered an injury to his lower left leg, with the edge rusher clutching his ankle area as he took a hit while his leg was locked underneath.
Hunt refusing the cart to the locker room is encouraging, but he was clearly in a lot of pain as he was helped inside. Seems unlikely he returns on Sunday, but hopefully it’s not something that will keep him out long term. Aside from Hunts physicality and skill, he also always brings the energy and is an important piece of what the defense does.
For many reasons this is not great, but the lack of depth is astounding. Jonathan Greenard being inactive was a game-time decision, and the team also lost LB Jeremiah Trotter Jr., who was ejected in the early seconds of the game.
With Hunt out, the Eagles have three healthy edge rushers remaining: Nolan Smith, Arnold Ebiketie, and A.J. Epenesa.
