Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski has spoken out about Sunday’s 4-1 defeat to Sevilla after linking up with the Poland squad for international duty.
Lewandowski wasted a great chance to make it 2-2 in
the game, when he missed a penalty, and admits it was a painful defeat for Hansi Flick’s side. However, the veteran has also called on Barca to use the defeat as motivation to bounce back strongly.
“Of course, matches like this happen; this is football. Things don’t always go my way. There are penalties you don’t take, and that’s part of the game,” he told reporters.
“I think that matches like this and situations like these can only strengthen us in the future. It hurts a bit today, but I hope we’ll react positively to it and it will give us an extra boost and greater motivation for the rest of this round.
“Sometimes there are difficult moments, but then you have to get back on track. This isn’t the first time in football that you’ve lost or not capitalized on something, and the most important thing is to get back on the pitch as quickly as possible and show your willingness to take revenge.”
Lewandowski’s miss was his third from the spot in La Liga in 10 attempts. He’ll now attempt to get back in the goals with Poland as Jan Urban’s side face New Zealand in a friendly and Lithuania in World Cup qualifying.
