No, I’m still not going to say the line, but this is now officially a Thing That Is Happening™. According to Fabrizio Romano (sigh), Spurs have reached an agreement with Manchester City to sign Egypt striker Omar Marmoush. The deal is an initial loan with a (potential) obligation of £50m.
There are, obviously, details here that we probably won’t know until David Ornstein of the Athletic weighs in, including what ‘conditions’ would make Marmoush’s loan option into an obligation, how much the initial loan fee is, and what Marmoush would make in wages. So while the £50m option/obligation sounds pretty good, we don’t yet have a clear picture. Marmoush was named to City’s bench in today’s 2-1 win over Bournemouth, but he never made it into the match — this might be why.
That said, we obviously overbid to sign Savinho for £85m, also from City, supposedly so that City could slightly screw over Eintracht Frankfurt. It’s still a significant outlay of £135m for two players that will, hopefully, instantly upgrade Tottenham’s attack.
Tottenham still haven’t announced the signing of Savinho, so my guess is that they want to do a joint announcement once both have passed their medicals and have signed. It’s probably too soon for either of them to feature Wednesday vs. Charlton in the League cup, but maybe we’ll see them next weekend? It likely also means the loan of Mikey Moore to FC Köln is now likely to go through this week.
Everyone loves a good bomba, so hopefully this will raise the morale this week after a pretty disheartening loss.
