Bayern Munich’s board member for sport, Max Eberl, made a name for himself at Borussia Mönchengladbach by identifying and development young talent at the academy level. He quickly rose through the ranks as Gladbach’s director of sport for 15 years, finding players like Marco Reus and Granit Xhaka. He parlayed his success into the same position at RB Leipzig before returning to his boyhood club, Bayern Munich.
At Bayern, Eberl has overseen deals for Michael Olise and Luis Díaz while also encouraging
Vincent Kompany to add promising prospects, like Lennart Karl, to the senior squad. During the 2026 summer transfer window, Eberl closed early deals on Ismael Saibari and Nathaniel Brown. In a recent press conference, Eberl detailed the final straw that pushed Bayern to sign Saibari this summer.
“We’ve known Ismael for some time,” said Eberl (via @iMiaSanMia). “The final real sign that he was the right player for FC Bayern was the match against us. He caused problems again and again with his pace and versatility, even though we won. He’s got something special. We kept an eye on him. At some point it was clear we wanted to make a move in attack. Both signing, Nene Brown and Ismael Saibari, show we want to increase our flexibility.”
In January 2026, Bayern defeated Saibari’s PSV Eindhoven side in the Champions League. Saibari had a fantastic match, drawing three fouls, completing three successful dribbles, and registering three shots including PSV’s lone goal.
