How are we here already?
It’s the last game of the regular season.
It’s Iowa.
At Home.
The Huskers are sure to leave it all on the field.
#1 THIRD TIMES THE CHARM
This is Matt Rhule’s third game against Iowa and while he was not successful
in the first two attempts, this is obviously the year.
Third time is definitely the charm.
Everyone says so.
#2 STOPPING THE RUN
Running the football is Iowa’s bread and butter. The Husker defense is going to have to do more than just kind of contain the Hawkeye rush attack. They’ll have to stop it. Nebraska needs to force Iowa to throw the football.
#3 MIXING UP THE PLAY CALLING
The Huskers are not going to be able to rely on Emmett Johnson to carry the offense if they want to walk away with a win. While getting the ball to EJ is crucial, he is not going to be able to run all over the Iowa defense like has been able to do with other teams. Dana Holgerson is going to need to be creative with his play calling.
We are going to need to see more long passes down field by TJ Lateef. He didn’t do a lot of that until the fourth quarter against Penn State. Early in the season Dane Key and Nyziah Hunter showed they have the ability to make big plays down field. We are going to need to see it on Friday.
#4 THE SENIORS
There are 19 seniors on the Nebraska roster. This is their last game at Memorial Stadium and for many of them this is one of their last games playing football at all. This team is going to put it all on the line for their seniors. Expect to see a solid showing from the Huskers.
#5 BOUNCE BACK
The Huskers are going to bounce back from last week with this game. I expect that they will go out and take risks and make big plays. They don’t want to end the regular season on a down note. We will see an energized Husker team that is ready to end their season in Memorial Stadium with a big win.
EXTRA REASON: THE FANS DESERVE IT
We’ve been here.
We’ve had faith.
We’ve drank the Kool-Aid.
We have been waiting for an eight win regular season for nine years. We have suffered through losses to Iowa many of the last ten years. It’s our turn. We deserve this win. We deserve to be happy.
And happy we shall be on Friday when the Huskers end the season with win over the Hawkeyes.
GOOOO BIIIIIGGG REEEEEDDDD!
