In case you missed it (and if so, where the heck have you been?), the Chicago Bears have acquired All-Pro defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons from the Tennessee Titans, along with a 2028 fifth-round pick, in exchange for Chicago’s 2027 and 2028 first-round picks and a 2027 fourth-rounder. The Bears have not yet announced the deal, but today they cleared a spot on the 53-man roster by waiving defensive end Jamree Kromah.
Kromah was inactive for Chicago’s first five games this season but played in the
last two, recording 2 tackles and a tackle for loss in 28 defensive snaps.
Simmons is expected to take his physical on Friday, and the deal will become official then.
The Bears also signed 29-year-old cornerback Josh Butler to the practice squad today. Butler (6’, 192) went undrafted out of Michigan State (2015–2019), and he began his professional career in the Spring League in 2021. In 2023, he played in the USFL before landing with the Dallas Cowboys from 2023-2025 (he tore his ACL in 2024), where he played in 6 games with 3 starts. He spent a couple of recent weeks on the Ottawa Redblacks’ practice roster in the Canadian Football League, but was let go on October 22.
