The Virginia Cavaliers just announced their arrival.
By upsetting the No. 8 Florida State Seminoles 46-38 in double overtime, the ‘Hoos and head coach Tony Elliott earned an absolute statement win.
Quarterback
Chandler Morris had his ups and downs across 60 minutes. He threw for 229 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions while running for three scores and 37 yards. He scored the game-winning touchdown in double overtime as he scampered to the right pylon and dove into the endzone before hitting Trell harris for the two-point conversion.
Virginia’s offensive line played heroically without starting center Brady Wilson. The Cavaliers ran for 211 yards and four scores on the night behind the big men up front. In addition to Morris, J’Mari Taylor and Xavier Brown were a deadly one-two punch out of the backfield.
The Wahoo defense struggled to contain quarterback Tommy Castellanos (78 yards, 1 TD) on the ground and Duce Robinson (147 yards, 1 TD) through the air. But, after giving up a touchdown on fourth down in the final minute of regulation, John Rudzinski’s group made the upset-clinching stop in double overtime. The Wahoos only sacked Castellanos twice, but they were in his grill in overtime and forced the crucial incompletion that gave way to thousands of Virginia fans storming the field at Scott Stadium.
This win marks a turning point for the Virginia football program. At 4-1 (2-0 ACC), the ‘Hoos are officially a player in the ACC this season. They’re likely to be ranked in the top-25 next week. Elliott’s job – which was hot at the end of 2024 – looks secure. With a weak schedule remaining this season, Virginia has real potential to put together an all-time season down the stretch.
We’ll have more coverage and analysis of this program-defining win shortly. For now, enjoy it Wahoo fans. This is a special one.
