TCU quarterback Josh Hoover will enter the transfer portal this offseason, giving Tennessee another potential option to pursue as they await news from the Joey Aguilar lawsuit. The Volunteers not-so-secretly
pursued Hoover back in April after Nico Iamaleava bolted for UCLA.
Tennessee was reportedly offering to give Hoover a million dollar raise to leave TCU. Given the timeline of the situation in Knoxville, it just wasn’t a very attractive gig at the time. After all, you would be forced to learn a totally new and unique system in just a few months before fall camp. Things ended up working out though, with Aguilar being forced out at UCLA.
Hoover threw for 3,949 yards in 2024 and 3,472 yards in 2025. The 6-2, 200 pound quarterback will be a senior next season with 2.5 years worth of starting experience. Hoover has thrown 71 touchdowns during that span, but also tossed 31 interceptions.
Hoover is a former 3-star prospect that was the No. 41 ranked quarterback in the 2022 class, per On3. He will now hit the open market and cash in ahead of his final season of college football. Will Tennessee be the one to pay him? We’ll see if they get involved, but expect the usual suspects (Miami, Indiana, Texas Tech) to be around as well as the dominos fall.
