Cody Rhodes stayed in the ring after losing the Undisputed WWE Championship on SmackDown to Drew McIntyre.
Fan footage from YouTuber Matt Kempke shows Rhodes standing in the ring, quietly processing what happened. Fans in Berlin, Germany, applauded Rhodes’ effort, which seemed of little comfort to the now-former champion.
When his music hit, Rhodes didn’t raise his arms for the familiar “Whoa.” Instead, he slumped in the corner, burying his head in the turnbuckle.
Rhodes had faced McIntyre in a brutal
Three Stages of Hell match. After splitting the first two falls, the final fall took place inside a steel cage. The finale was marred by outside interference from the returning Jacob Fatu, which helped McIntyre claim the title by escaping through the door of the cage.
