After last night’s clunker of a loss to the Philadelphia Phillies, the Mariners are looking to take a win to tie up this three game series. Perhaps the only bright spot for the Mariners during this disappointing road trip is that the Houston Astros and Texas Rangers have been just as bad, and so the M’s have hardly given up any ground in the playoff chase. We’d all, of course, prefer the Mariners to take advantage of Houston’s late skid to secure the division, but beggar’s can’t be choosers, and we
all begged for Mariners baseball during the offseason.
Lineups:

Bryce Miller has been activated from the IL for his start tonight. The Mariners also took the opportunity to adjust the bullpen, sending down Casey Legumina and Jackson Kowar in favor of Sauryn Lao. You can read more about the roster moves here. Miller’s 3 rehab starts in Tacoma went well, so here’s hoping he can hit the ground running in his first MLB start since early June. He’ll have his work cut out for him facing the thundering Phillies lineup.
Even though the M’s bats have gone relatively quiet during this east coast road trip, they remain potent. We’ll see if they’ll be enough to get to Phillies starter Cristopher Sánchez, who leads all of MLB in rWAR among pitchers. Sánchez has turned it on this year, pitching for a 181 ERA+, compared to just 71 in 2022. But he does tend to hive up the home run. Perhaps number 48 will come tonight.
