Borussia Dortmund were unable to catch Bayern Munich, despite a good second half effort, falling to a 2-1 defeat at the Allianz Arena this evening. Goals from Harry Kane and Michael Olise (with a helping hand from Jobe Bellingham) gave Bayern the advantage. Julian Brandt pulled one back, but it wasn’t enough.
Bayern gave BVB an absolute shellacking in the first half, though BVB’s defensive approach did a pretty good job of limiting how many clear-cut looks at goal they had. Dortmund had to find a response
in the second half, though, and they did exactly that. It was a strong showing in the second half. Unfortunately, it just wasn’t enough.
Bayern Munich now go five points clear at the top of the Bundesliga table, and they are seven points clear of Borussia Dortmund. There is work to do if BVB are going to get themselves into the title race. Here are our nomination’s for Man of the Match in BVB’s 2-1 loss to Bayern Munich.
Nico Schlotterbeck
Schlotterbeck was a rock in defense, and nowhere was it more evident than in his incredibly timed sliding tackle to deny Michael Olise in the second half.
Felix Nmecha
Nmecha’s performance won’t make any headlines, but I thought he quietly went about his job and did so pretty well, often in quite difficult circumstances. I think BVB’s struggles to get a foot in the game came down more to his teammates in midfield than him, and Nmecha was busy trying to keep BVB alive when they were out of possession.
Karim Adeyemi
I thought Adeyemi had a decent game and was really unlucky to slip on his chance in the second half. He linked up well with Serhou Guirassy and looked like BVB’s most threatening offensive outlet whilke he was on the pitch.
Daniel Svensson
Svensson was solid on both sides of the ball and a significant chunk of BVB’s best work came from his side of the pitch in the second half.
