Full disclosure: the NFL media schedule has a significant lull between June and the start of training camp in late July, usually. That last word is important to note because the Cleveland Browns and QB Brendan Sorsby have done their best to upend the normalcy of the NFL schedule.
First, the Browns traded all-everything DE Myles Garrett before the start of mandatory minicamp, then Sorsby was given a stay that would allow him to play at Texas Tech before reversing course in an attempt to enter the NFL
Supplemental Draft.
Now, all eyes turn to Sorsby’s process, which starts with getting approved for the late July draft and could end with him in Cleveland or another team trying to find their next franchise quarterback at a discounted rate.
According to Mary Kay Cabot, the Browns are not expected to put a big in on Sorsby. While Cabot calls it “unlikely,” she also noted “one can never say never in this complicated situation.” Basically, ‘we don’t really know,’ but one NFL source doesn’t believe they will.
According to Pete Thamel, who is one of the first to report on much of the Sorsby news, the former Indiana/Cincinnati/Texas Tech(sort of) quarterback has his Pro Day tentatively scheduled in just under a month from now:
It will be interesting which teams and what level of personnel attend Sorsby’s Pro Day. Most teams take their vacation time in late June and early July. Also, teams might want to veil their interest in Sorsby as a tactic in the blind bidding process.
What do you make of Cabot’s reporting? Do you think anything at the Pro Day will sway the Browns or other NFL teams from making a bid on the QB?
