Those players who get rookie minicamp invites know it’s a long shot opportunity to actually make a team’s roster. Every now and then, one of them impresses enough to get that spot, and Layden Robinson was one of those fortunate few.
The former fourth round pick of the Patriots muddled through a tough rookie season on a putrid line for New England in 2024, making 11 starts and appearing in 13 games. He made significant starts at both left and right guard that year, grading out poorly per Pro Football
Focus, and was waived/injured and ultimately released in August 2025. He spent part of the 2025 season and all of 2026 to this point with the Las Vegas Raiders, who waived him on May 2. His rookie minicamp invitation from the Falcons gave him a shot to latch on with a team, and he took full advantage.
In Atlanta, Robinson will be pushing for a reserve role against the likes of Kyle Hinton, rookie Ethan Onianwa, and veteran Andrew Stueber. If he does well, the fact that he’s entering the picture with a new coaching staff means he has a real shot to get a spot on the roster or practice squad, and most of his issues to this point in the NFL seem to be technique related. The hope is that Bill Callahan can get more out of him than the Patriots or Raiders managed, but Robinson was a well-regarded enough prospect just two years ago to be well worth the summer flier, regardless.
Give Robinson a warm welcome to Atlanta, if you would.
