Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has had a carousel of backups in recent seasons. However, the third-string player on the practice squad remained the same for much of that time: Chris Oladokun.
This year, Oladokun was cut in favor of rookie quarterback Garrett Nussmeier. After four seasons in Kansas City, Oladokun headed north to find his next football opportunity.

Former Chiefs QB goes to Canada — with a push from Mahomes and teammates | The Kansas City Star
Quarterback Chris Oladokun took that call from the BC Lions, based in Vancouver, British Columbia. After four years as the Chiefs QB3/emergency backup, the South Dakota State product signed with the Lions to their practice roster on Monday.
So did his brother, Jordan, a safety who spent last season on the LA Chargers practice squad. Chris was on the team’s negotiation list in 2024, which meant they held the rights to sign him if he chose the CFL.
5 Trade Landing Spots for Marvin Harrison Jr. to Revive NFL Career | Bleacher Report
Kansas City Chiefs
If Mahomes gets a reliable receiver, he could once again lead the league in multiple passing categories, as he did years ago with Tyreek Hill as his top option. Harrison isn’t in the same receiver mold as Hill, who can terrify defenders with blazing speed, though he can be a viable No. 1 target.
Don’t forget that Harrison hauled in 62 passes for 885 yards and eight touchdowns in his 2024 rookie campaign. He hasn’t lost his playmaking ability. If featured, the third-year pro can build on the promise many saw from him in his first season.
Chiefs aim to reduce Kenneth Walker’s workload ‘a little bit’ | ESPN
Murray is optimistic the Chiefs will find the proper balance against the Dolphins on when to give Walker more rest in order to increase the snaps for Johnson.
“I want Kenneth to get into a groove, and it’s hard to kind of take him out,” Murray said. “But Emmett’s done a great job and he’s still learning. He’ll continue to get more opportunities. I’ve just got to pull the trigger and get No. 9 [Walker] out of there and put No. 10 [Johnson] in there.”
Kansas City Chiefs CB L’Jarius Sneed has been the weak link on Steve Spagnuolo’s defense, but the coach isn’t giving up on the veteran | A to Z Sports
“Yeah, listen, you know he’s my guy, and you know he fights through the whole week with only getting a certain amount of reps because we want to be careful with his health and all that,” Spagnuolo explained on Thursday. “He brings an element to our defense that every coordinator likes. He’s a nasty, tough guy that plays hard and fast. Quite frankly, because I know he’s out there, I’ll put those guys in situations that I trust he’s going to get it done. You know, he’ll he’ll tell you that he’s a little disappointed in his performance in the game, but that doesn’t deter me at all from being confident in what he can do.”
How Jalen Royals’ First NFL Touchdown Has ‘Energized’ Both Him and the Chiefs | Sports Illustrated
Speaking to the media on Thursday, receivers coach Chad O’Shea praised Royals for consistently bringing energy to the table. He isn’t one bit surprised that the hard work finally paid off, and it’s rubbing off on the rest of the room.
“He goes and gets his hair cut and he comes back [and] he gets his first touchdown,” O’Shea said. “He comes with great energy. He’s always been a lot of fun to be around. He’s a tremendous person, Jalen is, that works extremely hard. He puts the team first in everything we do. We’ve asked him to be in some different roles for the team that he’s embraced.

Bengals’ Ja’Marr Chase, Tee Higgins fined multiple times for ‘offensive gesture’: Source | The Athletic
The NFL fined both Bengals wide receivers tens of thousands of dollars for multiple celebratory gestures during Cincinnati’s Week 2 win against the Houston Texans, according to a league source and as Chase confirmed Thursday afternoon during a media session with local reporters. The source, who wasn’t authorized to speak publicly, said the league considers the celebration to be an “offensive gesture,” and it is part of a wave of similar fines for NFL players this past week.
Steelers CB Joey Porter Jr. moves on from contract talks, offers no firm timeline for return | NFL.com
He finally addressed the contract and health-related matter Thursday, downplaying the drama that has followed him since the start of training camp. In short, he’s working his way back to the field and is no longer concerned with the financial standoff that lurked beneath his injury report status.
“It didn’t get done, it didn’t happen,” Porter said of his desired contract extension, adding he did not request a trade. “That’s really just old news for me now. It’s mainly just focus on what I’ve got ahead of me and just really getting back to 100%.”
Mike Macdonald says Sam Darnold is ‘on a good track’ to return from his glute injury | CBS Sports
“I don’t know what ‘fully healthy’ means,” Macdonald said when asked whether Darnold is fully healthy, per ESPN.com. “I think we’ll make a decision at some point before Friday’s over. I don’t think we’d go into the weekend not knowing if he’s going to play. But it’s on a good track right now, assuming today goes well.”
It at first seemed as though Darnold might miss extended time with the injury, but the healing process has apparently gone better than expected. It’s entirely possible that he misses only one week of action and returns this Sunday against the Commanders.

Is Week 3 in Miami a trap game for the Chiefs?
“I haven’t talked to [my teammates] about it,” Mahomes declared. “I think we’ve been so focused on just getting better and going to this next opponent and playing against a team that’s hungry and ready to play. There’re a lot of Texas Tech guys too. It gives me some more motivation to go out there and compete because I was going to watch these guys play and talking to them in the locker room. Now, they’ll be playing against me, so I know they’ll be hungry to go up against me as well.”
