The 2026 NFL coaching carousel churns on. While there have been a number of hires in Green Bay, mum is the word on a potential change at offensive line coach — though that’s never stopped analysts and fans alike from digging, ruminating, and wish-casting.
Recent rumblings include legendary Eagles offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland’s departure from Philadelphia, sparking chatter about where premier offensive line coaching talent might land.
Currently, Luke Butkus remains the Packers’ offensive line
coach according to the team’s official roster. While Packers head coach Matt LaFleur’s contract extension affirms continuity at the top, many coaching staff announcements are still pending — and opinions on whether the team should make a move at OL coach vary. Some cite continuity and past success under the current staff, while others believe fresh leadership is needed.
Because of its nuances, subtleties, and interdependencies, I usually shy away from commenting on offensive line play. But if you forced me to have a take, I would say it’s time to try to upgrade the coaching position there. Penalties and missed assignments plagued the unit this year, and if I — a fairly dim bulb — noticed it, the problem must be real. And real problems must be addressed. If you’re not getting better, you’re getting worse. With the investment at quarterback, and the head coach’s commitment to running the ball, standing pat at offensive line coach feels like a nonstarter to me.
