For the third straight year in a row, your Green Bay Packers are the youngest team in the NFL. According to PhillyVoice’s Jimmy Kempski, who did the math on every team’s 53-man roster, the average Packers player is only 25.23 years old.
The second-youngest team in the NFL right now is the Philadelphia Eagles at 25.49. These two teams are considerably younger than the rest of the league. For perspective, the difference between the Packers and the third-youngest team in the league, the Dallas Cowboys
(25.74), is the same difference between the Cowboys and the median team in the NFL.

The Pittsburgh Steelers (27.28) and Washington Commanders (28.09) are notably old going into 2025. Aside from the two teams on both bookends of the league, the other 28 teams in the NFL are within a year of each other in terms of average age on their rosters.
The Commanders also have the second-worst buying power in the 2026 draft, where they are only expected to have two selections in the top 165 picks. In short, they’re all in on an aging roster this year.
It shouldn’t be a surprise that the Packers are this young, as the most shocking moves that Green Bay made at the cutdown deadline were moving on from two vested veteran linebackers in Isaiah Simmons and Kristian Welch while keeping rookie draft pick cornerback Micah Robinson, whose roster spot most had tabbed for either Kalen King or vested veteran Corey Ballentine.
The Packers only have four linebackers, so there’s a good chance that one of Simmons or Welch returns to the roster on Wednesday after a player gets put on the injured reserve. Green Bay was limited to just two players going on the IR at cutdowns without them having to miss the entire season. The Packers chose to use their return designations on running back MarShawn Lloyd and center Jacob Monk.
After waivers are processed today, the Packers won’t be limited to how many more players they can put on the IR. Future IR candidates include defensive end Barryn Sorrell and safety Zayne Anderson.
If either is placed on the IR, you can expect that Green Bay will bring in at least one more linebacker, be it Simmons, Welch or a waiver wire pickup. That could bring the Packers’ age up a little.
