The Los Angeles Chargers have three of the first 86 selections in the NFL Draft this month and they have a few holes on the roster to patch up.
CBS Sports draft analyst Ryan Wilson believes the Chargers will address their pass rush needs first by taking Clemson’s T.J. Parker with the No. 22 overall pick.
“The Chargers have needs along the interior offensive line, but Parker is too good to pass up here. Tuli Tuipulotu is one of the best young edge rushers in football, but Khalil Mack and Bud Dupree
can’t play forever,” Wilson wrote.
The Chargers need to add a pass rusher after losing Odafe Oweh to the Washington Commanders, so the team should look to add to the position early during the NFL Draft.
In the second round, Wilson has the Chargers dipping into the offensive line by taking interior offensive lineman Fernando Carmona out of Arkansas. The team lost Zion Johnson in free agency to the Cleveland Browns, so getting a replacement there will be itching to get some youth at the position to help them moving forward. It’s possible the Chargers could take an offensive lineman in the first round, but they should go for the best player available regardless of position as long as it will benefit them in the long run.
In the third round, Wilson linked Florida State defensive lineman Darrell Jackson Jr. to the Chargers. Jackson recorded 77 tackles for the Seminoles over the past two seasons. On top of that, he has 50 games of college experience, making him someone that can step in right away on a defensive line in the NFL. Jackson will still have some development to work out, but his experience in college will come in handy.
