Virginia Tech head coach Mike Young’s offense is most effective when he has multiple players who can knock down shots from the perimeter. This offseason, the Hokies have focused on reshaping the roster again, which is common in the current era. On Monday, Virginia Tech just received a commitment from Stetson transfer Ethan Copeland.
The 6-foot-2, 184-pound Copeland is a native of Sunnyside, Washington, and began his college career at Utah State University Eastern, where he spent one season. As a sophomore,
Copeland transferred to Salt Lake Community College, where he averaged over 15 points per game. He transferred to Stetson ahead of last season, where he appeared in 33 games, averaging 15 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game. Copeland shot 44% from the field, 43% from beyond the arc and 79% from the free-throw line.
Copeland gives the Hokies another ballhander to pair with Ben Hammond.
Here’s the entire list of Virginia Tech newcomers for 2026-27.
- F Kuol Atak (Oklahoma)
- C Miles Heide (San Diego State)
- G Isaiah Elohim (Florida Atlantic)
- G Ned Hull (Elon)
- G Jaylen Curry (Oklahoma State)
- F/C Musa Sagnia (NC State)
- G Ethan Copeland (Stetson)
Atak, Copeland, Elohiim, Curry and Hull can all knock down outside shots. Copeland and Curry could be Virginia Tech’s sixth man next season, bringing instant offense off the bench. Copeland essentially replaces Jaden Schutt, which is a win for the Hokies. Copeland is a more consistent outside shooter than Schutt, who landed with Kansas State.
