The Pittsburgh Steelers escaped Met Life Stadium with a 34-32 win against the New York Jets in their regular season opener, and their quarterback enacted revenge on his former team.
Aaron Rodgers played things cool this week, leading into this matchup, saying things like “It’s just Week 1,” in his pre-game presser. We’re now getting a peek behind the curtain.
Rodgers was asked about beating Aaron Glenn.
“I was happy to beat everyone associated with the Jets,” the four-time MVP said.
It was a near-perfect debut for the Steelers’ new signal caller. Rodgers threw four touchdown passes, which hasn’t been done in a season opener since Ben Roethlisberger in 2007. His offensive line was also noticeably shaky. He finished with a 136.7 passer rating, which is also the highest rating by a Steelers QB since Roethlisberger in 2018.
Rodgers had an ugly breakup with the Jets in February, initiated by Aaron Glenn, who, according to Rodgers, flew him from California to the Jets’ facility just to tell him they didn’t want him back.
After two disappointing seasons with New York, Rodgers could not have asked for a better start to his tenure in Pittsburgh.
