For the last time in front of fans, the Detroit Lions took the field Wednesday for training camp. There will still be a handful of practices before the end of the preseason, but the rest will be with only media on hand.
Wednesday saw the return of a couple key players, but the sidelining of another. Here’s a full recap of Day 15’s injury news/participation report.
Returned to practice
- WR Jameson Williams (shoulder)
- DT Myles Adams (undisclosed)
- CB Nick Whiteside (hamstring)
Williams was back after missing just two practices with a minor shoulder injury. He was a little limited in his playing time, and the Lions
weren’t in full pads today, so we’ll see how much he participates when the pads come back on. Like in previous practices, Tom Kennedy and Tay Martin filled in when Williams was sidelined.
Myles Adams returned to action after missing a couple practices. He continues to rep mostly with the third-team defense.
Whiteside was back, but limited, after missing two practices with a hamstring injury. He got sprinkled in with both the ones and the twos, but was on a clear pitch count. D.J. Reed, Rock Ya-Sin, and Ennis Rakestraw all got work with the first team at outside cornerback.
Working with trainer
- LB Jimmy Rolder (leg)
On Tuesday, Jimmy Rolder told the “X’s and Bro’s” podcast that he expects to return to the field in a week or so. He started that road to recovery on Wednesday, doing some field work with a trainer—the second time he’s done so since suffering a hamstring injury in the first week of training camp.
Not practicing:
- RB Isiah Pacheco (knee)
- OT Giovanni Manu (NFI)
- C Cade Mays (wrist)
- G Ben Bartch (undisclosed)
- TE Sam LaPorta (undisclosed)
- EDGE Payton Turner (back)
- DT Mekhi Wingo (concussion?)
- LB Damone Clark (undisclosed)
- S Kerby Joseph (PUP, knee)
- S Brian Branch (PUP, Achilles)
Bartch’s struggle to stay on the field continues. He’s back out again after mixing in a few snaps with the starters over the past few days. Coach Dan Campbell insists he’s a competitor for the starting left guard job, but Christian Mahogany has been getting the majority of reps while Bartch has been sidelined.
There’s no word yet on LaPorta’s absence. He worked all offseason to rehab from back surgery and was able to start from Day 1 of training camp. No word yet on if this absence is related to the back.
Otherwise, the Lions appear to be getting healthier by the day.
