Joint practices are always good ways for the team to evaluate its current players and coaching. During practice, it may be a bit more difficult to get it done, but adding some competition brings out the best in people. Also, because it’s shorter than an actual game, it’s a perfect opportunity for the starters to get some reps and stay away from a higher risk of injuries. So, it came as no surprise when, today, it was announced that the starters will be playing a good amount in tomorrow’s joint practice against
the Jacksonville Jaguars.
With the starters getting some major playing time in the joint practice, the first preseason game is likely to feature more backups seeing the field. Still, players like Christen Miller, who fans are excited to see and could become a starter soon, should still have some playing time during the first preseason game.
In the joint practice, it’s going to be very interesting to see the red zone playcalling, the offensive line blocking, how the pass defense is, and Tyler Shough against competition. It’s going to be our first real glimpse at some of the work the Saints have done this offseason.
