French national team coach Didier Deschamps might be the most anti-bulletin board material manager in the world.
When former Bayern Munich defender Lucas Hernández took to the media to praise his attacking counterparts and indicate that the offense might be the best unit in the world, Deschamps was not a fan (as reported by Tz):
For former Bayern Munich player Lucas Hernández, his team’s performances were further proof of their strength. “We have a fantastic team. From the goalkeeper to the attack,
it’s exceptional,” the 30-year-old enthused. “The quality of the strikers is outstanding. And if you ask me if this is the best attack in the world, I would of course say yes.”
Statements that underscore the self-confidence of Hernández and the team. Nevertheless, they caused the center-back problems. France’s national coach Didier Deschamps was far from pleased at the press conference after the match against Colombia. “Did Lucas say that?” he asked, and announced: “I will speak to him about it immediately.”
The 57-year-old, who has coached the French national team for 14 years, preferred to see signs of strength on the pitch. “It’s not about believing you’re better than you actually are. Of course, we have a lot of potential, but we still have some steps to take, and the squad needs to understand that.
“I have goals, and the players should have them too. But we still have to remain humble. We actually have to be better than the other teams,” Deschamps added.
It is tough to discern exactly why Deschamps is so unhappy with Hernández — a player should believe his teammates are that good! The pressure of the World Cup might be hitting Deschamps a little earlier this time around.
