The Loons and Comets combined for 26 runs as all three Dodger minor league affiliates that took the field won their games.
Player of the day
After a magnificent first 36 games with Ontario, Emil Morales’ production warranted a call-up, and on Tuesday against the Dragons, his fifth game in High-A ball, the young shortstop truly arrived. Morales hit a pair of home runs in the same game for the second time this year, with six RBI, a season high for the nineteen-year-old.
Hitting second so early in his tenure with the Loons, Morales has the pressure to justify the recent call-up, and at least for this game, he did that and then some.
Triple-A Oklahoma City
Moving James Tibbs III to the top of the order had a positive impact, with Tommy Edman batting right behind him in the number-two spot as the Comets won the outer space battle over the Space Cowboys by a score of 12-1. Tibbs III went yard in the fourth, hitting his 12th homer of the year, although it should be noted he also struck out three times, finishing the game 2 for 6. Despite recording only one hit in the game, shortstop Noah Miller had enough juice to be responsible for five of the Comets’ 12 RBI, with a sacrifice fly and a grand slam.
Speaking of home runs, the only run allowed by the Comets came on a solo shot as starter Christian Romero moved to a 5-1 record with 5.1 innings of one-run ball.
High-A Great Lakes
A home run in the first and another one in the ninth—it’s not too often you see something like that for a single player, but Emil Morales was on fire, helping the Loons smoke past the Dragons in a 14-3 win, one that saw both teams record double-digit hits, but only the Loons took advantage of opportunities with men on base.
Morales capitalized on a great performance from leadoff bat Charles Davalan, who got on base three times in six at-bats, scoring three runs. The middle of the order stood out for exercising patience, as both Nico Perez and Kole Myers walked three times.
Unable to complete five innings, having to go through quite a bit of traffic, Loons starter Sean Patick left the win for reliever Davis Chastain, who now has moved to a 5-0 record.
Single-A Ontario
Catcher Anson Aroz hit a two-run walk-off home run in the ninth to give the Tower Buzzers a 6-4 win over the Rawhide.
It was Aroz’s only second long ball of the year and first since his third appearance of the season. Nineteen-year-old third baseman Chase Harlan also left the park, raising his OPS to .976.
The Tower Buzzers needed those two runs in the bottom of the ninth because in the top of the inning, the visiting side had tied the game at 4-4 with a couple of runs of their own. Needing to cover four full innings to wrap this one up, reliever Luis Carias earned his third win of the season.
