Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim cast some doubt on Harry Maguire and Mason Mount’s fitness ahead of a Premier League match against Brighton & Hove Albion this weekend.
“The squad is fine,” Amorim
said. “We have some doubts, we had some issues during the week with Harry Maguire and Mason Mount. Knocks but nothing serious. We will see tomorrow.”
Both players have been important contributors in United getting back to back wins in the Premier League for the first time this season, and their absence could impact efforts to make it three wins on Saturday.
Maguire, the scorer of the decisive goal in a 2-1 win over Liverpool at Anfield last week, has continued his revival in Red this season and paired nicely with Matthijs De Ligt in the backline.
Mount has similarly found his feet after two years of hard luck dealing with injuries, and watching from the sidelines as United went through a managerial change and adopted a new identity. He scored the opening goal in United’s 2-0 win over Sunderland three weeks ago.
Mount is a solid rotational option in either of the No. 10 roles in the front three, and his assistance in midfield was evident last week as United put on a really encouraging display against the champions.
Leny Yoro would be the likely replacement for Maguire, as Lisandro Martinez is back training but still not match fit as he recovers from a torn ACL. In the front line, Matheus Cunha would likely return to the 10 role with the reintroduction of Benjamin Sesko. Kobbie Mainoo has also played in the 10 role previously, though hasn’t done so with regularity under Amorim.
United face Brighton in the late window on Saturday at Old Trafford.
