Per at least one noted pundit, Vincent Kompany’s long-term future at Bayern Munich could eventually lead him back to where his legendary playing career began.
Former Bayern Munich midfielder Didi Hamann believes Manchester City could ultimately come calling for Kompany, particularly after Pep Guardiola moved on from the club. While Hamann had a feeling City could have explored the possibility of bringing Kompany back this summer, he believes the Bayern Munich head coach was never seriously tempted
to leave.
A major reason is the relationship Kompany has developed with Bayern Munich and the opportunity the club gave him after his difficult spell at Burnley.
Hamann explained why he believes Kompany will eventually manage Manchester City.
“I think he’s so settled and so happy here. I think he also appreciates that he got the chance here with Bayern Munich, especially as he’d just been relegated with Burnley. He got the job here and they paid an awful lot of money, nine or ten million quid for him. So, I think he really is a very respectful and humble guy, and he knows what Bayern Munich did for him. He wants to give that back,” Hamann told Andy’s Bet Club. “So far, he’s done that. Even if City had come in, he probably would have said, ‘No, not this summer.’ Will we see Xabi Alonso at Liverpool in the future? I’m not too sure, but I think we will definitely see Kompany at City one day.”
Kompany still has plenty to accomplish at Bayern Munich, but Hamann believes a return to Manchester City is eventually inevitable.
If Kompany continues to succeed in Munich, could we eventually see him take over at the Etihad? It seems like it, but unlike Hamann, most fans are only concerned with the here-and-now. If Kompany continues to bring home multiple trophies again, his eventual exit will sting a whole lot less.
