Jake Paul isn’t holding back on how he feels after cancelling his latest Netflix spectacle against Gervonta Davis due to some pretty heinous allegations from “Tank’s” ex-girlfriend.
Courtney Rossel filed a lawsuit against Davis last week accusing the WBA lightweight champion of battery, aggravated battery, false imprisonment, kidnapping, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. The filing includes a lot of details on how Davis allegedly assaulted her and threatened to kill her. After that
(and lackluster interest in the form of weak ticket sales), Most Valuable Promotions decided to pull the plug on the event.
“Gervonta Davis is an actual walking human piece of garbage,” Paul wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “Working with him is an absolute nightmare. The unprofessionalism, the bizarre requests, the showing up hours late to shoots. To the numerous arrests and related accusations and lawsuits. If you support this man, you support the most vile sin a man can commit.”
“I didn’t want to give this woman abuser a platform to grow his fans and to grow his bank account,” Paul continued. “My company champions women. I’m so sorry to everyone involved. Mostly to the under-card fighters, to my team at MVP and to my team who worked so hard prepping for this fight. Sacrificing time with loved ones and kids just for this fool to lose his unintelligent mind again. It’s scary that devilish men like this can rise to the top of culture and sports, including in positions of power.”
“I hope you people moving forward look beyond his fake streetwear pieces ‘SWAG’ and search for something deeper to be a fan of,” he concluded. “As for me, it’s on to the next one as always. Anyone. Anytime. Any place.”
The current plan from MVP is to move the Paul fight to mid-December against an opponent TBD. Numerous names have been floated from Ryan Garcia to Francis Ngannou, but few are saying yes to a fight against “The Problem Child.”
Nate Diaz said yes, but there’s little interest in a rematch after the poor showing Diaz delivered in their 2022 fight. Paul is stuck having to try and thread a needle, finding someone that will appeal to mainstream Netflix audiences that also won’t beat his ass into the canvas.
Most of Paul’s past opponents have been older, smaller, or less-experienced in boxing. Can he find someone with juice that he can beat on such a short timeline? We have our doubts.
