Manchester City will look to continue their fine form as they visit Villareal on Tuesday evening. The Blues are fresh from a 2-0 victory over Everton, where an Erlang Haaland double secured the points for the Blues. Victory for City on Tuesday evening will consolidate their place in the automatic qualification slots and also leave the Spanish side in danger of elimination near the foot of the table.
Villareal have lost one and drawn one of their two matches so far and will be desperate for the three
points to boost their own chances of qualification. The are currently third in La Liga, having one five and lost two of their opening nine games and go into the match on the back of a 2-2 home draw with Real Betis.
City have beaten Napoli and drawn with Monaco in the Champions League so far, while Villareal lost 1-0 at Spurs in the first match, and needed a last minute equaliser to grab a point at home to Juventus last time out.
It should make for an interesting game between two teams that are flying in their respective leagues. As always, our team are here to give us their views and opinions on the match. Here’s what we think this week.
Saul
Tough matchup in a tough environment. Still, I expect an up and ready for it team. Foden and Haaland should be good and I think they win it. 2-1 City.
Villareal 1-2 City
Thomas
City are off to Spain for a UCL clash with Villarreal. The Yellow Submarine are third in the La Liga table, but are winless in their last three across all competitions. City need to find scoring from non-Norwegian sources, and I expect they will this week. A tough match to be sure, but a City win.
Villarreal 1-3 MCFC
Will
I can’t say I know much about Villareal. I do know that City are in fine form and I expect them to win.
Villareal 0-3 City
Pete
City’s first-ever victory in the Champions League was over Villareal in 2011 when the Blues won 3-0 on Spanish soil, and I’m hopeful of another win tonight. Villareal are a good side but I think City are just a level above.
Villareal 1-3 City
What happened against Everton
The Blues took all three points against Everton and all our team predicted a City win. No one got a perfect score but Saul picks up extra points for predicting the correct goal difference. We still have only one spot-on score between us and Pete’s wait for a perfect prediction continues.
Here’s the table:
