Newcastle United’s recruitment team is already evaluating potential incoming transfers for the January transfer window as the club considers how Matthias Jaissle’s young squad can be strengthened further.
One of the latest players to enter Newcastle’s radar is Nottingham Forest captain Morgan Gibbs-White, who has emerged as a potential mid-season target for the Magpies.
According to Hooligan Soccer’s Ekrem Konur, Newcastle is among four Premier League clubs closely monitoring the 26-year-old and evaluating
the possibility of making a concrete approach. Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City are the other clubs interested in the veteran midfielder.
“Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City and Newcastle United are currently evaluating internal recruitment blueprints to launch concrete approaches during upcoming transfer windows,” Konur reported.
Gibbs-White’s proven Premier League experience and versatility are among the traits that seemingly attract Newcastle the most. The England international primarily moves around the final third as an attacking midfielder but can drop deeper or move into wider areas.
Konur added that Newcastle and Manchester City are interested in adding a “high-IQ, homegrown playmaker capable of orchestrating rapid transition attacks,” which fits Gibbs-White profile.
Any potential deal, however, would require a significant financial commitment. Gibbs-White remains under contract at the City Ground through June 2028, so Forest has considerable control over his future.
Konur reported that Forest has no intention of allowing its captain to leave cheaply but would consider proposals worth approximately €70 million to €80 million (£60 million to £69 million). A potential agreement would also reportedly need to include performance-related bonuses and a substantial sell-on clause.
For now, there is no indication that Newcastle has submitted an offer or opened formal negotiations with the player or Nott Forest. Instead, Konur reported that intermediaries are gathering information and assessing the financial parameters surrounding a potential deal as the next window approaches.
