After listening to so many John Cena interviews in 2025 and throughout his career as the face of WWE, I’m firmly convinced that he’s the most corporate-friendly star in company history, and doesn’t have
a soul. How else can one explain John’s answer that his favorite moment in his legendary WWE career is CM Punk’s pathetic apology to Saudi Arabia?
Cena doesn’t have a soul in WWE kayfabe either. He lost it in early 2025 when he sold his soul to The Rock and turned heel at Elimination Chamber. It was perhaps the best moment of the year in pro wrestling, and a hell of a way to get everyone talking about his farewell run in WWE.
Unfortunately, the rest of Cena’s heel turn was a mess, in part because The Rock completely abandoned the story. John admitted it failed and turned back babyface right before SummerSlam, had some pretty fun matches over the next few months, and ended his WWE career by tapping out like a little bitch to GUNTHER in his retirement match in December. Cena’s creative vision was that of a man who faced death with a smile on his face.
Add it all up, and there were plenty of moments that we will never forget from John’s final year as an active competitor in WWE.
With that in mind, Cena celebrated the new year today on social media by thanking everyone who helped make 2025 an unforgettable year for him.
“Life goes on and we all move onward, as 2026 is here I’ll fondly remember so many moments from 2025. Thanks to ALL fans, co workers, critics and anyone around the world who used their voice to make 2025 a year that I’ll never forget. Omnia Dedi. Pro omnibus gratias ago.”
Cena closes his remark in Latin by saying thank you, and reiterating that he gave everything he had to his WWE farewell tour.
Which pro wrestling moments from 2025 will go down as the ones you’ll never forget? Let me know in the comments below, Cagesiders.
