Is this the season Bayern Munich’s Manuel Neuer rides off into the sunset? Well…if you ask club legend Oliver Kahn, there might not be a better time. And there might not be any need to try to cap it off with a World Cup trophy, either.
“Isn’t now the perfect time to win all trophies with Bayern one last time and then retire at the very highest point possible?” Kahn mused for Sky (as captured by as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “Do I really need another World Cup in the USA with over 40 degrees in the shade?
Do I have to put myself through that?
“I think those are the thoughts he’s having right now. If he wins the Champions League again with Bayern, that would be his third title. He’s already a World Champion. Then it would be smart to say: ‘That’s it.’ — That’s quite an art for an athlete.”
That Oli sure has some great suggestions when it comes to Bayern players not playing in the World Cup, doesn’t he? Time will tell, though, if Neuer does indeed feel it is time to hang ‘em up.
Naturally, this again begs the question: would Kahn heed his own advice?
