The Washington Commanders announced that WR Terry McLaurin has been activated from the Active/Physically Unable to Perform(PUP) List. He was holding out of training camp as part of his ongoing contract dispute with the team, and was placed on the PUP list with an ankle injury when he reported after three missed practices. McLaurin has been effectively holding in as he works to get a new deal, but now he will be able to practice with the team and negotiate.
Dan Quinn’s normal pre-practice presser was
moved until after practice, likely due to this announcement. McLaurin should be at practice today, and Quinn will be available to talk about ramping up the team’s #1 WR. Offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury said he needed his players that hadn’t been on the practice field to get back on the grass as soon as they were able. McLaurin, along with WR Noah Brown, and OG’s Brandon Coleman and Sam Cosmi haven’t been available, and the offense isn’t where it needs to be for the season.
Adam Schefter reported that this was the next step in McLaurin’s progression back to playing, and it was unrelated to the contract negotiations. The two sides are still not finding a common ground on another extension. McLaurin is under contract for this season, and could enter the season without a new deal. This would push the contract negotiations until after the season, and then the possibility of a franchise tag would get involved. The two sides still have time, but Week 1 is right around the corner.
