Barcelona defender Pau Cubarsi has been left out of the Spain squad for today’s Nations League clash with Czechia in Oviedo.
Cubarsi has played 90 minutes in both of Spain’s matches against England and Croatia during the international break, and was an ever present at World Cup 2026, but is now being given a breather by manager Luis de la Fuente.
According to Mundo Deportivo, there’s no injury and Cubarsi is expected to return on Tuesday night to start Spain’s final fixture of the break against Croatia
in Split.
While Cubarsi is given a rest, Barca team-mates Lamine Yamal, Dani Olmo, Pedri, Rodri and Fermin Lopez are all in the squad and should feature.
De la Fuente was asked about the possibility of resting Yamal before the game but didn’t particularly sound like a man who was willing to leave his star man on the bench.
“He’s important at any point in the game. From the start, or from the 60th or 45th minute. It doesn’t cost him any more or less to leave him out,” he told a press conference.
“When we play him, it’s because he’s effective for the team.”
Spain head into the match on an incredible run which they will be hoping to maintain. La Roja are now 40 matches unbeaten and have won their last nine games in a row.
