Conor McGregor just declared his current UFC contract void, and he did it on Roblox.
The Irish sports star has been spending some time on Roblox with his son, and some of those gaming sessions have turned into impromptu interviews about the future of his fighting career. During his latest chat with gaming influencer Caylus, “The Notorious” shared where things stood, and the news he shared could be one of the most pivotal statements he’ll make in the history of his career.
“I’m warming up now for the
White House fight,” McGregor said. “I’m gonna get it, for sure. We’re gonna negotiations with the Ultimate Fighting Championship in February, and I’m very interested to go. They actually got a new deal with Paramount, it’s worth $7.7 million so the company has 4x’d its profit. And my contract essentially is void right now because there’s no more pay-per-view. Whereas my contract was based on pay-per-view sales. I’m the highest generating pay-per-view fighter of all time.”
“The pay-per-view system is done,” he continued. “I’m due a new contract. So we go into negotiations in February, and I’m very interested to see how it goes.”
McGregor had two fights left on what was his current UFC contract — two fights which have been very hard for him to get booked. While relations between Conor and the UFC remain solid in the public eye, it’s clear that something is going on behind the scenes. The UFC never rebooked him after he broke his toe for UFC 303. They shut down his attempt to box Logan Paul in India for an insane amount of money. And lately he’s been talking about fighting elsewhere once his contract is up.
Well … now that contract may be void because the fundamentals of how he makes most of his money through the UFC are different. The UFC is actually lucky that McGregor is so honed in on fighting on the White House card. A slick lawyer could bust him out of his existing deal, and still could if negotiations don’t pan out in February.
That’s a lot of uncertainty and noise for McGregor, who went through a rapturous psychedelic experience recently and seems very locked in for his much-hoped-for comeback in June.
“And what am I doing for it? I’m focusing on what I can control,” he declared. “I’m in the gym. I’m living in the gym, focusing on my health, focusing on my rest, listening to my culture, following the game plan. External noise is nonexistent to me. I don’t absorb it. You know, you might be unaware of it, but you don’t let it seep in. My internal dialogue dialogue strong.”
“I’m showing the kids, showing my team what it takes. You’ve gotta live it.”
