The New Orleans Saints agreed to terms with former Maryland offensive tackle Alan Herron following the 2026 NFL Draft, adding a developmental UDFA prospect with notable upside.
The 23-year-old, Westmoreland, Jamaica native spent the first two seasons of is college career at Shorter after redshirting as a freshman in 2022. His sophomore season, he allowed one sack and four total pressures on 81 pass blocking snaps.
Herron transferred to Maryland as a junior, where he allowed five sacks and 38 total
pressures on 514 pass blocking snaps, while committing three penalties on 795 total snaps. His senior season in 2025 was his best, allowing three sacks and 24 total pressures on 521 pass blocking snaps, while committing two penalties on 760 total snaps.
Herron earned an overall grade of 71.2 from Pro Football Focus this past season, which ranked 83rd among 632 qualifying offensive tackles. His pass-blocking grade of 80.3 ranked 47th among and his run-blocking grade of 58.7 ranked 338th at the position.
At the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine, Herron measured six-foot-five, 308 pounds with 33 1/8-inch arms and 9 1/8-inch hands. He ran a 5.09-second 40-yard dash with a 1.84-second 10-yard split, a 5.09-second 20-yard shuttle, and posted a 32-inch vertical jump along with an 8.2-second three-cone drill.
According to Next Gen Stats’ prospect score breakdown, Herron earned a total score of 69, ranking 10th among offensive tackles. His production score of 58 ranked 15th, while his estimated athleticism score of 72 placed 10th at the position.
Herron brings clear NFL-caliber size and length as a developmental offensive tackle with room to grow. While his technique and consistency are still raw after limited FBS experience, his intangibles give New Orleans a moldable prospect who can be shaped within a professional coaching environment.
With improved hand usage, leverage and finishing ability, he has the physical tools to develop into a depth piece who could eventually compete for a roster spot in New Orleans.
