The Texas Rangers have purchased the contract of righthanded pitcher Aidan Curry, the team announced today. Had the Rangers not added Curry to the 40 man roster, he would have become a free agent.
Curry was signed as an undrafted free agent in the summer of 2020. The 24 year old has worked as a starter through his professional career, though he hadn’t pitched above A-ball before 2026, when he started at high-A but spent most of the season at AA Frisco, with one start for Round Rock. For the season,
he had a 4.93 ERA in 104 innings over 23 appearances at the three levels, with 128 Ks against 55 walks.
When I wrote earlier this month about the Rangers’ Rule 5 decisions, I mentioned that Curry could be added to the major league roster, but anticipated that the team would instead opt to re-sign him to a minor league deal, as they did with Gavin Collyer when he became a free agent last season. The Rangers apparently didn’t want to risk the possibility of Curry departing.
