Liverpool today announced October’s Player of the Month winners for both the Men’s and Women’s teams, with Ronald Araújo winning for the former and Cornelia Kapocs for the latter.
Araújo started all six of Liverpool’s October matches, and his effort level and calm-headedness won over supporters. The on-loan defender notably twice “cleared” balls using his head while fully on the ground, showing a willingness to defend by any means necessary: a quality sometimes lacking in a Liverpool defense that
can make mistakes at times in trying to be too clever rather than choosing the “safety first” option.
He scored twice in the Champions League in October as well, netting against LASK and Villarreal.
Araújo joins fellow new defender Jérémy Jacquet on the POTM boards, with the young Frenchman earning the honor for August/September.
“I’m grateful to my teammates. They’ve made my adaptation more comfortable,” the Uruguyan told Liverpoolfc.com in response to his win.
“I’m learning a great deal from each one of them, as well as from the staff at the club and the manager and everyone that works at the club.
“I think they’re very good at what they do and they make things a lot easier for you.”
Cornelia Kapocs won the Player of the Month award for the women’s team, and this is the second time earning the award in her career at Liverpool.
Though August POTM winner Natalia Ramos ran her close for October’s honor, Kapocs’ 12-minute hat trick against Manchester United all but assured her of the winning votes in what was a comparatively difficult month for the Reds.
The Swedish youth international featured in all four of October’s matches, starting in three, and contributing to the stoppage time equalizer against the London City Lionesses as well, since it was her cross that lead directly to the own goal.
Kapocs was pleased to be recognized for supporters, and reflected on her contributions to Liverpoolfc.com.
“It was really nice to get my first hat-trick for this club and it was even more special because I kept the ball and all the girls signed it,” she said.
“It’s always important to score goals when you are an attacking player. It was a nice feeling and it gave me a boost.”
