A new Mizzou Athletics sports season is officially upon us! While the last few years I’ve assigned this written piece to one of our talented photographers, I’m taking it over this year, and will be selecting my favorites of the week. Since I am not a photographer at heart, my analysis will be more surface level, but I’ll try my best!
I’m back this week with photos from volleyball’s win over Auburn in five sets last Sunday, men’s hoops pro day, tennis practice and baseball’s Fall Ball game vs. Bradley.
Pro Day
On Sunday, October 11, Margo and a whole host of Rock M basketball writers, including the Matts (Gustafson, Watkins AND Harris) and Sam, all took to Mizzou Arena to get their first glimpse of the new squad. Matthew recapped it here and there were tons of extra notes on Rock M +.
I included A LOT of photos, as there are A LOT of new faces on this team.
Tigers Take Down Tigers in Five Sets
Across the parking lot on Sunday, at the same time as Pro Day, Mizzou Volleyball pulled off a come-from-behind victory over the Auburn Tigers in five sets (21-25, 26-24, 17-25, 25-19, 15-11), snapping a three-game losing streak. Sophie recapped the excitement here.
Tennis Prepares for ITA Regionals
Writer Aaron and his special projects photographer Casey Eaglin went back out to the Mizzou tennis facility to hang out with Robin & Co. earlier in the week as the team prepared for the ITA Regionals.
Per Aaron, the tournament marked the first time all nine Missouri players and all three coaches, including Goodman, associate head coach Manny Raga and assistant coach Bronte Murgett, would be together at the same competition. After splitting the roster between its first two fall tournaments, Missouri had an opportunity to evaluate the group as a whole while continuing to establish the foundation of Goodman’s first season.
Be sure to read Aaron’s in-depth piece here, and check back in next week for how the team did (it was good!).
Fall Ball Gallery
Margo attended Mizzou Baseball’s 5-4 Fall Ball victory over Bradley on Saturday afternoon, along with Sophie, who wrote about it in a notebook. I’ll be honest; attending this game sounds like a lot more fun than watching the football game.
With the roster not updated with numbers, it is very hard to determine who was who in the photos, but per Sophie, lefty Brady Kehlenbrink delivered two strong innings, striking out five, while Ty Wait smashed a two-run shot to left to go along with two walks.
Multimedia Additions
The Rock M staff was also quite busy on the multimedia beat, recording an episode of our brand new Women’s Hoops show, Full Court Press (featuring Jack & Aaron), and a postgame press conference recording from Mizzou VB’s sweep of Mississippi State on October 14. ENJOY! I love putting these together.
Next week, I’ll be back with volleyball senior day, soccer’s home finale and the conclusion of Fall Ball!
